5 Design Trends for 2022

Crown Street Banner - Design Trends

Out with the old and in with the new design trends. It’s important to us here at Blue Serif that we stay ahead of the trends and be as up to date as possible with what’s going on in the design world, so that we can deliver the best possible creative to elevate your brand. Which is why, as we start the new year, we’ve been looking ahead to see what will be the big design trends for 2022. Here are just a few of our favourites:

1. Motion graphics

Motion has been big for a while now, and this will continue as one of the big design trends for 2022. The great aspect of motion graphics is that they can be used on a variety of channels and in a variety of ways, to capture your audience’s attention and imagination: this could be on your website, your social media, for digital signage or even as part of a presentation.

This means that whether you’re looking to engage your audience at the start of an important presentation or want to use motion graphics to create an animated infographic, adding some animation or motion graphics can be a really effective way of getting your marketing message across.

For example, we created an animation for Sony Professional Solutions Europe recently, which was a really bright and vibrant way to welcome their audience to the start of the presentation:

2. Bold and vibrant colours

When it comes to design trends for 2022, colours will be going bold. This is great for brands that want to instantly catch the eye with their marketing messages, with eye-popping colours, typography and icons.

We recently created a very visually appealing, vibrant piece of artwork for Crown Street, Brentwood. The brief asked us to create a piece which could be seen from the Chatham Way Car Park, located just off of Crown Street, and make visitors instantly aware that they were visiting the home of independent shopping in Brentwood. It also had to be ‘Instagramable’, ready for visitors and shoppers to share on their social media channels.

We’re really pleased with how the artwork turned out, reflecting the various shop owners within Crown Street, and their shops’ personalities.

3. Environmentally friendly design

We are all much more aware of our impact on the planet nowadays, and design in 2022 will reflect this. From low carbon websites through to eco-friendly printing methods, many brands will want to be more eco-conscious with their marketing in 2022 as they look to make their overall processes more environmentally aware.

A great example of eco-conscious design is the Laudato Si brochure we recently created for Brentwood Diocese, which aimed to inform parishioners of different ways that they can pledge to be more sustainable. It also advised parishioners of what the Catholic Church is doing to aid sustainability, both at a Diocese and Parish level, as well as within Catholic schools.

We were pleased to both design and print manage the brochure, the supporting posters and pledge cards, working closely with one of the leading UK printers for the use of environmentally friendly inks and papers. Of course, we also created supporting digital assets, so as to make the information as accessible to as wide a demographic as possible.

4. Eccentric serifs

No, we’re not talking about the Blue Serif team (although we wouldn’t blame you for thinking that we were!), but rather, the style of typography. This year, typography will see quirky serifs, and typography which has a little more pizazz to it.

We certainly embraced slightly more spirited serifs when going through our very own rebrand last year, bringing our logo not only up to date, but also in line with our namesake.

5. Creative which elevates your brand

Of course, the most on trend creative there could be for 2022 is creative which elevates your brand. Therefore, if bold colours and whacky fonts aren’t for you, make sure that you are working with a creative agency who understand your brand, your vision and your ambitions.

When it comes to design trends for 2022, there is no point in trying to follow the crowd if this simply won’t wash with your target audience; by working with a 360 creative agency, this will be recognised from the outset of getting to know your brand and thought about as part of your overall marketing strategy.

Here at Blue Serif, above all else, we want to get under the skin of your brand, to really understand your vision, your goals and your target audience, ready to produce creative which enhances your brand and drives your marketing message. Get in touch today to see how we can create your very own design trends for 2022.
