Unexpected. Uncommon. Unforgettable.

Showcasing some of the more unusual creative projects we've worked on over the years, which have been anything but ordinary when creating a big campaign impact!

They say variety is the spice of life, and that’s certainly true in the creative industry. One of the most rewarding aspects of our work is the diversity of brands we collaborate with – and the industry insight that comes with each partnership.

We have the privilege of supporting businesses at every stage of their journey: from passionate entrepreneurs just starting out, to flourishing SMEs, to established global brands where we proudly serve as brand custodians.

We also work alongside inspiring charities and community organisations, helping to amplify their voices and make a meaningful impact.

While we offer a broad brand and marketing service as our core, from time to time a project comes along that steps outside the usual brief.

These unique challenges are always met with enthusiasm by the Blue Serif team. Here, we share a few of those less common – but equally rewarding – projects that we’ve enjoyed bringing to life.

SONY gift boxes

As a project that was designed to recognise and show appreciation of the SONY Professional Filmmaking Ambassadors, this was a small box with a big impact.

By working closely with the team at SONY to coordinate not just the design aspects but also the delivery, implementation and fulfilment, each recipient received a variety of branded SONY merchandise – perfect for use on location and to showcase the SONY brand.

Nibbles and Cheese packaging design

For a team of food lovers, we were really living our best life when designing for a cheese board hamper company. After all, sweet dreams are made of cheese…!

With its sumptuous colour palette and a logo with a hand crafted feel, reflecting the luxurious nature of what Nibbles & Cheese offer, there was a hint of quirkiness thrown in to the design too – reflective, perhaps, of the various unusual aspects that we got involved with.

This was a comprehensive project which encapsulated everything from the initial logo and visual brand language through to their digital marketing assets and even the accompanying food and delivery packaging. From cheese wrap paper decorated in an illustrative style through to the accompanying taste cards which gave further information for those curious to learn more, this project gave us the opportunity to use our skills on a wide variety of different collateral.

Brentwood Eels Rugby League shirt design

When Matt’s love of rugby and design collide, what do you get…? The Brentwood Eels RLFC kit, of course!

We freshened the 2024 kit with some subtle stripes and scales, for both the men’s and women’s kits, to add a little bit more of the Eels’ personality to the overall look.

Being the team’s headline sponsors for three consecutive years created a great collaboration for us. Not only has it been great fun to get to know the team, but we’ve also enjoyed elevating their marketing, which allowed them to open many doors, provided various opportunities for them and continued to strengthen their offering of rugby for all.

And let’s face it, seeing our logo trotting out onto the Rugby pitch never gets old!

Chilli Republic packaging design

When a new chilli sauce company approached us about label design for their range of chilli jams, sauces and chillinaise, the remit was to create tangible branding to move the business forward with its expansion plans, as well as help it to stand out on supermarket shelves.

By creating simple yet effective branding which has a change of pattern for each of the different sauces in the range, Chilli Republic were able to effectively market themselves to food outlets, shops and catering firms. Alongside getting the technicalities of the labels right, something which we’d not tackled before, we were really pleased with the finished result, which allowed the client to turn up the heat on their marketing.

Crown Street Mural design

As supporters of small, independent businesses locally, it was a pleasure to be able to add to the street scene in the home of independent shopping in Brentwood, Crown Street. Originally created in the post-Covid drive to retain the trend during the pandemic for shopping at local independent retailers, the brief was to be a bright, welcoming piece that would be able to be seen from the car park in Crown Street, to greet Brentwood’s shoppers.

Working closely with the key stakeholders from Brentwood Borough Council as well as liaising directly with the retailers in Crown Street, the end piece was a bright, vibrant, contemporary piece which reflects the unique products to be found and the warm welcome you’ll receive when shopping at an independent store.

Summer House Records vinyl cover design

If we were looking for something super cool to add to our portfolio, then a vinyl record cover was certainly it! Having created a website for the record company, Summerhouse Records, prior to this project, it was a pleasure to continue to creatively support their work over the course of their next couple of album last releases.

Indie Band La Porta Nuova needed artwork for their new album, Torino, and so, bespoke artwork was created for both the album cover and record sleeve. In addition, we also supported the band with digital marketing and social media support and training to empower them to promote their new offering.

Howe Chartered Surveyors’ cycle seat cover design

We love campaigns which change things up a gear, and the Howe Chartered Surveyors’ Cycling Club campaign certainly did that! As keen cyclists, HCS asked us to create campaign collateral to promote their Cycle Club, as part of a wider strategy to promote their services in the local area.

This campaign used guerilla marketing at its core: through the creation of promotional cycle seat covers, the team at HCS left them as gifts on the seats of bikes at local stations, creating both an act of kindness and promoting the Cycle Club at the same time. Alongside additional, more traditional campaign collateral, including leaflet design, the team at HCS were able to effectively promote both their services and their regular Essex cycling sessions.

Champion Your Local Independents campaign

As an independent business ourselves, we are always very keen to support other independent businesses. Therefore, when we were asked by Brentwood Borough Council and the Brentwood Business Partnership to devise and deliver a campaign to champion local independent businesses in the borough, we were very happy to step in.

As such, we created a multifaceted campaign with a focus on digital delivery, to really push the message that shopping independently has a wide variety of economical and community based benefits. By coordinating a community engagement project which saw us create a campaign ident, undertake a photoshoot for the 40+ businesses that signed up, creating social media campaign imagery and rolling out a social media toolkit for the individual businesses to use on their own platforms, the Independents’ Day weekend of 4th July 2022 saw local social media feeds and Facebook groups flooded with the message to shop local and support independent retailers.

Furthermore, by creating a campaign with longevity, the board of the local Business Improvement District has the option to be able to create more collateral to push the message in future years.
